Stanford University, American Legion Palo Alto Post 375, and the City of Palo Alto joined together to recognize veterans and highlight a comprehensive list of Veterans Day activities that build community and connection for these important local heroes.

Scheduled activities include:

Saturday, Nov. 5 - Community Heroes Football Game 

At the Nov. 5 football game against Washington State University, Stanford Athletics recognizes some of the many community heroes who make Cardinal Football possible. Athletics invites local veterans to attend. Interested veterans can log in to VetTix to claim complimentary tickets. On the field will be honored: 

  • Tina Wong, '23, U.S. Army veteran
  • William von Kaenel, '80, Buck Club member, Air Force veteran, physician and the Commander of American Legion Palo Alto Post 375.

Monday, Nov. 7 - Palo Alto-Stanford Veterans Day Celebration at 3 to 4 p.m.

All are invited to participate in a Veterans Day Recognition event on Monday, Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building (MacArthur Park), 27 University Ave, next to the Palo Alto Transit Center. The City of Palo Alto, American Legion Palo Alto Post 375 and Stanford have collaborated to recognize the service and contributions of the U.S. Armed Forces at the site of this local landmark designed by architect Julia Morgan and dedicated to the service of our veterans over a century ago. Palo Alto Mayor Pat Burt and Admiral James O. Ellis Jr., currently the Annenberg Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University among others, will speak at the outdoor ceremony at 3:00 p.m. The city will livestream the event on YouTube.

Friday, Nov. 11 - Wreaths at Memorial Court and Memorial Auditorium, Stanford 

The Office of the President places floral wreaths at both Memorial Court and Memorial Auditorium as symbols of our gratitude and respect for the services and sacrifice of Stanford’s veterans. Memorial Auditorium will be open for viewing memorial plaques, 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.


Friday, Nov. 11 -  OMAC Stanford Veterans Reception at 6:00 to 9:00  p.m. 

Stanford’s Office for Military-Affiliated Communities will host a Veterans Day Reception at the Stanford Faculty Club to commemorate the service of Stanford community members. The event is open to Stanford students, fellows, alumni, faculty, and staff with military affiliations, including people who previously, currently or will be serving in the military of any nation.
